Many non-profits host their websites through a local hosting provider.  Did you know that you can cut your costs by up to $10 or more per month or more by switching to a national provider?  Some of this is because just 5-10 years go, websites were expensive, with domain registration costing up to $100 a year, and hosting costing $20-50 a month.

Some non-profit charities haven’t shopped around for the best rates and are still paying someone locally a premium to host their website.

Is local website hosting better? No, not really. You’re not going to be able to drive down the street and take your website home with you if something bad happens anyway, so in my experience a 24/7 customer service center at a large hosting company is typically more efficient than most smaller hosting companies, and your output cost is much less. The only exception to this rule is if you’re doing something strange with your website.

Here are my favorite hosting services. I’ve used all of them and recommend them with two thumbs up.
