Grants

The saying “the best things in life are free” may apply to few things, but it does apply to non-profit grants. Free money is probably the best way to build or manage your non profit organization. Here are some tips to winning a grant for your non-profit.

  • Read any requirements of the person handing out the grant. If you don’t qualify, don’t apply
  • Demonstrate significant need - why should someone give you money
  • State your organization’s in a clear manner without wasting the reader’s time. We don’t all need to know that every toilet in your organization is broken, unless that’s what you’re requesting the grant to fix.
  • Offer a solution for your problem, using the grant money available
  • Address who you are, and how you impact the community in a positive manner
  • Show measurable goals and tangible results.
  • Don’t just throw out your grant requests in a vacuum. Follow up with the grant giver. See if they can provide feedback or advice. They may know other companies that provide funding for nonprofits.
