Need computer hardware or services? Try your local college. First of all, there will be a whole department full of computer savvy technicians willing to advice you on how to do things on a shoe string budget. Chances are, they’ve been stuck doing things like that for years. They can introduce you to free software, and more. And, chances are, if anyone is upgrading computers or monitors on a regular basis and scraping the old ones, you’ll find it to be colleges in the area.

If you don’t have success finding a college to provide donations, you may want to keep your eye on the business section of the local newspaper. Has a company recently purchased a new building? Downsized? You may find that they suddenly have a surplus of spare computer parts around ripe to be donated. However, many businesses lease computers. So, you may be just as smart to contact Dell directly and see if they have a program for donating refurbished back from lease computers to nonprofits.
